SOFTWARE PROCESS ACHIEVEMENT AWARD RECOGNIZES SOFTWARE ENGINERING PROCESS INNOVATIONS

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: 25 MAY 1999

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Institute for Electrical and Electronics Engineers, Inc., (IEEE) Computer Society has chosen two organizations to receive a Software Process Achievement Award. One is the AIS Development Group, represented by Pat Ferguson and Prasad Perini, at Advanced Information Services Inc., Peoria, Illinois. The other is the Test Software and Industrial Automation Branches, represented by Walter Lipke and Kelley Butler, at the Oklahoma City Air Logistics Center, Tinker Air Force Base, Oklahoma.

These awards are sponsored by the IEEE Computer Society and the Software Engineering Institute (SEI). They are made in recognition of exceptional work in applying and tailoring the principles of continuous process improvement to enhance quality, productivity and customer satisfaction, as well as institutionalize process improvement practices. The awards were announced at the recent ICSE-99 conference and will be presented at the upcoming SEI Symposium in late August. At the symposium, both organizations will give presentations explaining their accomplishments and experiences in improving their organization's processes.

The Software Engineering Institute, headquartered in Pittsburgh, PA, is a federally funded research and development center established in 1984 by the U.S. Department of Defense with a broad charter to address the transition of software engineering technology. The SEI is an integral component of Carnegie Mellon University and is sponsored by the Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Acquisition and Technology {OUSD (A&T)}.

The IEEE Computer Society is the world's largest association of computer professionals, and the largest constituent society of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, Inc. The Computer Society publishes 21 periodicals, releases more than 130 books per year, and annually sponsors more than 100 conferences throughout the world. In addition to its headquarters in Washington, D.C., the society maintains a publications office in Los Alamitos, Calif., a European office in Brussels, and an Asia Pacific office in Tokyo. In 1999 the Computer Society opened regional service centers in Budapest, Moscow, and Beijing.
