Process Definition

Process definition results in a usable set of process documents that can be followed consistently throughout the organization. The AIS approach, begun in 1992, takes into account the best practices from the organization, practices suggested by models such as the Capability Maturity Model® (CMM®), Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMI®), industry standards such as those from the IEEE, and business goals.

AIS begins by analyzing existing practices and identifying best practices within the organization. Depending on the situation and the need, AIS works with the organization to create new process elements, improve existing processes, or adapt process elements from AIS' repository of award-winning processes. AIS utilizes the organization's existing process documentation standards or, if necessary, develops process standards to ensure that all resulting process documents have a consistent look and feel. AIS takes an iterative approach to process development that enables validation and refinement to occur with end-users throughout the development of the process documents to ensure a good fit with the environment. AIS also evaluates and recommends appropriate tools to automate and streamline the process based on the organization's needs so that the defined processes and tools that support them work together seamlessly.

AIS's process definition services result in a complete, usable set of process assets such as policies, procedures, standards, guidelines, and templates that are tailored to the organization's needs. Process definition allows the organization to achieve more consistent results and provides a strong foundation for continued software process improvement.
